Notes
For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
Ephesians 2:10
As Christ followers, we represent God on Earth. He works through us to bring His plans to life, helping us thrive.
You are coming to Christ, who is the living cornerstone of God's temple. He was rejected by people, but he was chosen by God for great honor. And you are living stones that God is building into his spiritual temple. What's more, you are his holy priests. Through the mediation of Jesus Christ, you off er spiritual sacrifi ces that please God. As the Scriptures say, "I am placing a cornerstone in Jerusalem, chosen for great honor, and anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced."
Yes, you who trust him recognize the honor God has given him. But for those who reject him, "The stone that the builders rejected has now become the cornerstone." And, "He is the stone that makes people stumble, the rock that makes them fall." They stumble because they do not obey God's word, and so they meet the fate that was planned for them. But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God's very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light. "Once you had no identity as a people; now you are God's people. Once you received no mercy; now you have received God's mercy."
Dear friends, I warn you as "temporary residents and foreigners" to keep away from worldly desires that wage war against your very souls. Be careful to live properly among your unbelieving neighbors. Then even if they accuse you of doing wrong, they will see your honorable behavior, and they will give honor to God when he judges the world.
1 Peter 2:4-12
We are chosen, royal priests, and God's own possession. Our lives refl ect His goodness by displaying the way He called us out of darkness into His light. As "temporary residents," we should live with honor, pointing others to Him through our actions.
1) Rescues
Don't you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Christ's sacrifice on the cross paid for our sins, forming a new covenant with God. We honor this through things like obedience, taking Communion, and remembering God's faithfulness.
2) Refines
As God's partners, we beg you not to accept this marvelous gift of God's kindness and then ignore it. For God says, "At just the right time, I heard you. On the day of salvation, I helped you." Indeed, the "right time" is now. Today is the day of salvation.
2 Corinthians 6:1-2
God's boundaries and instructions set us apart for His purpose. The Holy Spirit within us empowers our growth, while Scripture equips us to do good works.
The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.
Romans 8:11
All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.
2 Timothy 3:16-17
A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other. Thriving in Christ means participating fully—listening to the Spirit, studying His Word, and serving the community.
1 Corinthians 12:7
3) Rewards
For no one can lay any foundation other than the one we already have—Jesus Christ. Anyone who builds on that foundation may use a variety of materials—gold, silver, jewels, wood, hay, or straw. But on the judgment day, fire will reveal what kind of work each builder has done. The fire will show if a person's work has any value. If the work survives, that builder will receive a reward. But if the work is burned up, the builder will suff er great loss. The builder will be saved, but like someone barely escaping through a wall of flames.
1 Corinthians 3:11-15
Our works, built on Christ's foundation, determine rewards in eternity. While salvation is a gift of grace, how we live after being saved impacts our eternal rewards. Living with purpose means trusting God with everything and engaging in His work today. Though we are just passing through, we strive to hear, "Well done, my good and faithful servant."
